John Teas has led a long life in the nursery
business. He was born at the nursery and came
to work here full time in 1957. He has been active
in professional organizations, plant societies,
local colleges, and the Christian Science Church
here in Bellaire, Texas. He is past president
of Garden Centers of America. His family helped
establish the community and John exemplifies the
tradition inspired by his famous grandfather “Papa”
Teas. Edward Teas Sr. brought his family nursery
business from Missouri in 1910 to the Texas coast
where he helped originate the landscape and nursery
business in Houston. Famous for roses, Teas under
John’s supervision continues to provide hundreds
of varieties of new and old roses. John can often
be found pruning the roses at the nursery he loves.
