Saturday Info Desk
Easy Lawn Care
by Rich Boettler

Bring Samples
Worried about your lawn?
Bring sample grass to Teas
Despite all the charms of spring, it can
bring lawn concerns, the savviest gardeners in the Houston
area acknowledge. What's that brown stuff in my lawn?
Are these dry patches or chinch bugs? Do I treat with
a fertilizer or a fungicide?
Teas Nursery Horticulturist Rich Boettler
gave a demonstartion, Saturday, April 5, 10 AM in the
Teas Garden Center, 4400 Bellaire Boulevard. The seminar
information and more is freely dispensed at Teas info
desk, especially on Saturday mornings.
The knowledgeable Boettler, known as the
go-to guy at Teas for nearly 40 years, developed the Lawn
Care Schedule found on the website www.teasnursery.com.
"But we find that our customers also like one-on-one information,"
said Boettler. At his Lawn Care Seminar, customers are
encouraged to choose an area of their lawn where there
is transition from green to brown, or other lawn problems,
and bring a sample to the seminar.
"Remove a piece of sod about 6 inches x
6 inches x with about an inch of soil attached," explained
Boettler. "We will discuss the problems and probable solutions."
Boettler also encourages anyone with a lawn
to get ready for spring green-up with these steps beginning
April 1: Sharpen lawnmower blade, mow lawn short while
the lawn is dormant, catch clippings, and apply second
application of pre-emergent weed prevention.
